Race representation matters. Period.
Since this is my very first blog post ever, and I am completely immersed in the throes of creating a new website for Freedom Youth Yoga, I don't have much time to write today. However, it would be remiss to not celebrate this moment.
When I started creating the very first website for this nonprofit, back in November of 2018, there were NO stock photos of children of color doing yoga or meditation. None. I checked many different websites, but could find none. That discovery at the time hurt a place in my heart - I had had higher hopes for popular society. Regardless, it was also a silent inspiration to me, in the hopes that I might be able to gather images of my own,...images of children I would have the honor of meeting for practicing yoga.
FreedOM Youth Yoga, and our world, has come a long way since then. We still have a long way to go, though. Our main purpose is to bring the practice of yoga to children who wouldn't normally have the opportunity. That is to say, to bring the practice of yoga to the type of kids who haven't been represented in the stock photos of the past.
With more hope for our future,
