Our Work

Freedom Youth Yoga was founded with a clear purpose: to make mindful movement accessible to youth in every community. This page shares the heart behind our work—how it all began, and the progress we’ve made along the way. Here, we offer a snapshot of our growth, milestones, and long-term goals—a reflection of our commitment to equity, wellness, and sustainability, and how we’re building something that lasts. From humble beginnings to impactful programs, see how our journey continues to grow in service of youth, community, and mindful connection.

Our
Vision

We envision a world where every young person has access to the tools of mindful movement and breathwork, empowering them to lead lives of peace, resilience, and intentionality

Our

2018

Freedom Youth Yoga

2018 marked the official beginning of FreedOM Youth Yoga as a recognized nonprofit organization. With approval for incorporation in Georgia and 501(c)(3) designation from the IRS, our mission to bring mindful movement and breathwork to youth took root. This same year, our founder became a certified children’s yoga instructor—equipping the organization with both the vision and credentials to begin the journey.

2019

Growing Roots

In 2019, FreedOM Youth Yoga began planting seeds throughout the Atlanta area. We launched our first preschool yoga classes at the Smyrna Community Center, introduced afterschool yoga clubs at local elementary schools, and served as summer camp coordinator and kids’ yoga instructor at Windy Hill Athletic Club. Each new partnership allowed us to deepen our connection to the community and bring mindfulness-based movement into spaces where children learn, grow, and play.

2020

Going LIVE!

When in-person programs paused, our commitment didn’t. In 2020, we shifted to a fully virtual model—bringing yoga and mindfulness into homes through online classes via a makeshift studio in the basement. Despite the distance, we kept kids moving, breathing, and connected during a time when they needed it most.

2021

Summer Camp

In 2021, we launched our first official summer camp partnership, leading daily yoga sessions for children ages 5 to 13 with the Marietta Police Athletic League. This year also marked a return to in-person instruction at preschools and afterschool programs—while continuing to offer virtual classes for families still at home. Our roots deepened, and so did our reach.

2022

Spread the Love

This was a year of expansion, outreach, and deepening impact. We explored grant opportunities and built new community partnerships to bring yoga and mindfulness to more youth in Smyrna. Alongside our regular classes at MPAL and Smyrna Montessori School, we added new summer camp programs at KOS Smyrna and expanded our offerings through a meaningful partnership with The Healing Environment. From afterschool programs to preschool sessions and virtual classes, our presence grew across multiple spaces—laying the groundwork for even greater community connection.

2023

Fueling Our Mission

We brought yoga to unique spaces, including teaching a special goat yoga session in partnership with Our Giving Garden’s “Working with Animals” Day. With community support and growing recognition, we stepped into a new season of possibility.

2024

Community Collaboration

In 2024, we reached a pivotal moment in our journey. Freedom Youth Yoga was honored to receive a grant from the Cobb Community Foundation —our first major funding award, affirming the importance of our work and fueling our mission to expand.  The grant award, in conjunction with the United Way of Greater Atlanta and Kennesaw State University, also invested in our leadership by offering professional certification through the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance. We expanded our reach with both paid and sponsored youth yoga programs offered across 14 Atlanta-area sites—including schools, community organizations, and youth development centers.  With thoughtful planning and a continued commitment to our mission, we’re building a lasting presence for mindful movement in communities across Atlanta.
